A frustrated college student attempts to break out from his older brother's towering shadow and carve out a reputation for himself on the football field. When tragedy strikes, his career is jeopardized, and his life is altered. His Shadow is a story about ambition and activism: who will win when the two collide? This is the second Loy A. Webb production to be staged at The Encore, the first being a staging of her show "The Light."
Black athletes and the battle against injustice and discovering one's own voice are the center of His Shadow, which the author characterizes as a parable.
Making his stage debut, Vernon Jackson Jr. plays quarterback Teeny, Jeremy Christopher Jefferson plays college football teammate Kodak and theatre veteran Shronda Major plays campus activist Rain Monroe. Taylor Chatman serves as stage manager for the piece. Scenic design by Edward Castleberry. Light Designs by John Washington and sound design by Tavares Cook.
